There is nothing worse than feeling stuck in life. It causes you to lose hope, feel miserable, and attract a whole bunch of bad things into your days. It doesn’t matter if you feel stuck in your relationship, job, health, or anything else, feeling stuck means you feel like you are not doing anything beneficial or new for your life, and that affects everything else negatively.
The good news is that you don’t have to be stuck forever. You, just like everything else, is meant to be in a constant flow, and you get to choose whether or not that flow feels good or bad. Whether you believe it yet or not, you are always in control over how you feel.
The solution to stop feeling stuck in life is to take action when you feel stuck and don’t feel happy. Take action on doing something different, making a new choice, or being someone different. That’s the only way you will go from being where you are to another more interesting place. But, how do you do that?
1. Read A Book All The Way Through
I know how simple this sounds, and I know that many of you probably don’t feel like you could sit down and read a book because your brain is not in the mood to focus on reading. But, it is one of the best ways to help you when you’re feeling stuck in life.
If you feel stuck, then you need to get your brain wheels moving. You need to find new interests, new paths, and new ideas. You need to get out of the same old train of thought and into another one. You need inspiration, motivation, and determination to change your life. All of this can be done by reading a book.
It’s nice to read articles. In fact, I highly recommend it! But, a book on a subject that you are struggling with can really help open up yourself to a new way of living, thinking, or being.
A book is written by someone who understands the subject and has experience with it. And a book covers all different aspects of one subject, so I guarantee that there will be a chapter or even just an idea that helps you get unstuck.
For instance, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle helped me get unstuck in life. I was identifying with my ego too much and had closed off my awareness. I was unable to see that the way I was viewing the world was keeping me stuck until I read that book. Every little sentence in that book resonated with me, and at the end of it, I felt hopeful and ready to move towards a life I really wanted.
Don’t know what kind of book to read? I’m a huge believer that you will find the book meant for you. If you see a book that calls to you, or if a book keeps coming up in your awareness, then read it! It’s probably the book that is meant for you at this time, even if you don’t realize it. I sure didn’t think A New Earth was going to help me feel better about life. But it did!
If you are really not sure where to start, I recommend checking out Brian Johnson’s Philosophers Notes. They are 6-page summaries that highlight the most important aspects of the most popular self-improvement books around. And as you go through them, you will find yourself drawn to different books and not moved at all by others. This will help you figure out which book to start from and then you can go from there!
2. Take A Course
If you don’t feel like reading a book, then take a course where you get to read, listen, and practice is the next best thing. Courses are just books sectioned out in a way that you can digest stuff easier, and they always include exercises to help you understand what you are learning.
One of the best places for self-improvement courses is the MindValley Academy. These courses will give you a new perspective on life. They will help you see things differently, which will alter your beliefs and behaviors in life. When that happens, changes will start to occur, and you will no longer feel stuck in the place you are now.
3. Take The Limits Off Yourself
The last two tips are concrete ways to take action when you are feeling stuck in life, but this tip is a little different. It requires you to look at yourself and how you label yourself, because if you feel stuck, you are labeling yourself in some way.
Think of someone who is limitless. They can do what they want, be who they want, love who they want, go where they want, and believe what they want. And they can change their mind tomorrow and go somewhere different or do, be, love, and believe something different. Do you think a person like that would feel stuck in life? Of course not! They have so many options that they are always moving and growing and changing.
You can also be limitless. You just have to take the limits off you. You have to remove the limiting beliefs you have about yourself, your life, and your potential. Limiting beliefs are beliefs that are only true in your head. You believe them because of your perspective on life, not because they are a matter of fact.
Limiting beliefs can be any of the following:
– I can’t leave this unhappy relationship because of the kids.
– I will never find another job better than this one.
– I can’t do something different with my life because I’m too old.
– I will never come into big money that will give me the abundance that I want.
Looking for ways to become persistent? I happen to know the best way to develop persistence in your life, and I’m willing to bet it will change your life once you understand the power it has. But, before we talk about that, let’s talk about one really important concept of becoming more persistent.
You have to become persistent to achieve the life you want, but you can’t become too strict around the ideas I’m about to share. In other words, you have to allow some room for life to happen. Life is full of unexpected circumstances and people working against you, and you have to be able to adjust sometimes to accommodate life.
Studies have shown that when you are too rigid and focused on being persistent, you are likely going to become stressed out and anxious. Everything will become a mission full of strict processes that you are unable to veer from, and you will neglect your health, relationships, and everything in your life because of that. Therefore, you need to have an easy going attitude to become more persistent and maintain a healthy attitude in the process.
The Biggest Way To Become More Persistent Is To Develop Systems
If your goals are starting to depress you because you are never able to follow through with them, then develop systems instead of goals. Goals are always in the future – far away and out of reach, so it can feel like you are failing or struggling every step of the way. But, systems are just a part of life. They are a part of your day that you can feel good about doing. At the end of the day, you can feel good about accomplishing them and rest easy knowing that all you have to do is follow the same systems again tomorrow. You don’t have to stress out about the goal, how far away it is, and how unreachable it seems to be.
In short, your systems are what you focus on, not your goals. And if the systems have been developed to help you get what you want out of life, then you will never have a goal to reach. Yes, you may reach a goal, but you will not need to stress out about reaching it and then set up a new one shortly after you reach it and start the whole process of stressing out again.
For instance, the difference between setting a goal for 160 pounds and setting up a system for living healthy are huge. When you set the goal for 160 pounds, and you are 200 pounds, you stress about where you are until you get to the actual goal. And once you get to 160 pounds, you feel empty because you no longer have a goal, so you set another goal to get down to 150 pounds, and then start the process of stressing out about where you are all over again.
With a system, you do what you need to do daily. You don’t focus on the goal, you focus on the process. And, because you are never striving towards a goal, you will find it easier to be persistent with your health and reach 160 pounds and maintain good health afterward. In the end, if the system is helping you lose weight and feel healthier, than that is all you have to focus on, not losing another 5 pounds over and over again.
What Are Systems?
Systems are made up from a set of rules or tasks that help you do what needs to be done to get you what you want. The chances are good that you already have some working systems in your life.
For instance, you might have a system on how you clean your house. You might dry and wet dust the entire house, clean the bathrooms, vacuum, and then wash the floors. Or you might have another system that works for you. No matter what it looks like, your system is what allows you to do what you need to do and make sure things get done quickly and efficiently.
If you don’t have a system, then you don’t know what to do next, and you spend more time trying to figure out where you should go rather than just doing what needs to be done. And, because no system can make things overwhelming, you are more than likely just to give up.
