There is a part of you that knows exactly what you are here to do and the direction you need to take. All you have to do is tap into that inner guidance and listen to it to find your life purpose. But, that is easier said than done for a lot of people. Most of us are told what we should do or feel guilted into doing something that doesn’t exactly line up with our inner truth. If you feel like something is off, then it probably is, and it’s time to figure out what your life purpose really is. Following are 5 ways to do that.
1. Broaden Your Focus
Many people feel that their life purpose and career are tied together, but that’s not true. Your life purpose is your unique gift or talent that you can and want to share with others. It could be volunteering and contributing to other’s well-being. Or, it could be painting and sharing your masterpiece with the world to enjoy. Your life purpose will contribute to yourself and the world in a positive way, and it doesn’t have to earn you millions of dollars.
2. Focus On What Will Impress You
This is simple: don’t focus on what will impress others but, instead, focus on what will impress you. When you focus on others, you will ponder things that look impressive, such as making money or being famous, which may not be your true purpose in life.
3. Meditate On It
Our thoughts are chaotic. They jump from one idea to the next, and in most cases they don’t mean anything at all. Experts think we have about 70,000 thoughts per day! [Source:http://www.loni.usc.edu/about_loni/education/brain_trivia.php] How can we focus in on what our life purpose is with all these thoughts travelling in and out of our mind?
The only way to relax and connect with our inner selves is to quiet the mind. And the best way to quiet the mind is to meditate. If you don’t meditate regularly, it’s going to be hard at first. Thoughts will come in and out. But, the more you meditate, the easier it will be. Once you can get to a place of quiet and stillness, you will have many insights into who you are, what you want, and what your life purpose is.
4. Keep Busy
You may want to sit around until you find your life purpose, but how can you discover your talents and gifts and what inspires you if you sit at home? It’s important to get up, get out there and try new things, and allow yourself to experience everything that life has to offer you. When you do, your chances of finding your life purpose quickly will increase.
5. Find Something That Makes You Forget About Time
When you are doing something that you were created for, time will not have any meaning. You will forget to eat, drink, and go the bathroom. You will be focused on what you are doing and your intensity will take up all your energy. Moreover, you will easily make time for your life purpose. It won’t be something that you have to struggle to add into your life.
For instance, my friend can always find time to study and learn more about her religion, while I can always find time to study and learn more about being happy and fulfilled. Part of her life purpose is to live by and spread the messages her religion gives her. Part of my life purpose is to be an example and advocate for living a life that makes you happy.
