6 Vital Things To Do When You’re Feeling Stuck In Life

There is nothing worse than feeling stuck in life. It causes you to lose hope, feel miserable, and attract a whole bunch of bad things into your days. It doesn’t matter if you feel stuck in your relationship, job, health, or anything else, feeling stuck means you feel like you are not doing anything beneficial or new for your life, and that affects everything else negatively.

The good news is that you don’t have to be stuck forever. You, just like everything else, is meant to be in a constant flow, and you get to choose whether or not that flow feels good or bad. Whether you believe it yet or not, you are always in control over how you feel.

The solution to stop feeling stuck in life is to take action when you feel stuck and don’t feel happy. Take action on doing something different, making a new choice, or being someone different. That’s the only way you will go from being where you are to another more interesting place. But, how do you do that?

1. Read A Book All The Way Through

I know how simple this sounds, and I know that many of you probably don’t feel like you could sit down and read a book because your brain is not in the mood to focus on reading. But, it is one of the best ways to help you when you’re feeling stuck in life.

If you feel stuck, then you need to get your brain wheels moving. You need to find new interests, new paths, and new ideas. You need to get out of the same old train of thought and into another one. You need inspiration, motivation, and determination to change your life. All of this can be done by reading a book.

It’s nice to read articles. In fact, I highly recommend it! But, a book on a subject that you are struggling with can really help open up yourself to a new way of living, thinking, or being.

A book is written by someone who understands the subject and has experience with it. And a book covers all different aspects of one subject, so I guarantee that there will be a chapter or even just an idea that helps you get unstuck.

For instance, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle helped me get unstuck in life. I was identifying with my ego too much and had closed off my awareness. I was unable to see that the way I was viewing the world was keeping me stuck until I read that book. Every little sentence in that book resonated with me, and at the end of it, I felt hopeful and ready to move towards a life I really wanted.

Don’t know what kind of book to read? I’m a huge believer that you will find the book meant for you. If you see a book that calls to you, or if a book keeps coming up in your awareness, then read it! It’s probably the book that is meant for you at this time, even if you don’t realize it. I sure didn’t think A New Earth was going to help me feel better about life. But it did!

If you are really not sure where to start, I recommend checking out Brian Johnson’s Philosophers Notes. They are 6-page summaries that highlight the most important aspects of the most popular self-improvement books around. And as you go through them, you will find yourself drawn to different books and not moved at all by others. This will help you figure out which book to start from and then you can go from there!

2. Take A Course

If you don’t feel like reading a book, then take a course where you get to read, listen, and practice is the next best thing. Courses are just books sectioned out in a way that you can digest stuff easier, and they always include exercises to help you understand what you are learning.

One of the best places for self-improvement courses is the MindValley Academy. They call it the ‘ultimate personal growth university.’ The founder is a big believer that mainstream education is missing a few things regarding personal, spiritual, and mental growth. That’s why he built the company full of courses that can help you understand more about yourself and the world around you. The courses tackle every area of life, including work, relationships, health, spirit, emotions, and more.

These courses will give you a new perspective on life. They will help you see things differently, which will alter your beliefs and behaviors in life. When that happens, changes will start to occur, and you will no longer feel stuck in the place you are now.

3. Take The Limits Off Yourself

The last two tips are concrete ways to take action when you are feeling stuck in life, but this tip is a little different. It requires you to look at yourself and how you label yourself, because if you feel stuck, you are labeling yourself in some way.

Think of someone who is limitless. They can do what they want, be who they want, love who they want, go where they want, and believe what they want. And they can change their mind tomorrow and go somewhere different or do, be, love, and believe something different. Do you think a person like that would feel stuck in life? Of course not! They have so many options that they are always moving and growing and changing.

You can also be limitless. You just have to take the limits off you. You have to remove the limiting beliefs you have about yourself, your life, and your potential. Limiting beliefs are beliefs that are only true in your head. You believe them because of your perspective on life, not because they are a matter of fact.

Limiting beliefs can be any of the following:

– I can’t leave this unhappy relationship because of the kids.
– I will never find another job better than this one.
– I can’t do something different with my life because I’m too old.
– I will never come into big money that will give me the abundance that I want.

These are just limits that you are putting on yourself. You could leave the unhappy relationship – lots of people have done it with kids. And, how do you know that there isn’t a job better for you out there? And, you are never too old to do something new with your life. Age is just a number. It doesn’t define you. Lastly, you never know when you may come into money. You may win the lottery, inherit money, get a millionaire dollar check from a stranger who wants to give their money away! The possibilities are endless, so don’t let yourself put limits on what could happen.

When you remove the limits, you will feel more hopeful and more motivated to take action in your life. Hope has a funny way of inspiring you to keep going forward instead of letting yourself get stuck.

Not sure what your limiting beliefs are? If you pay attention, you will be able to hear yourself put limits on yourself. You will use the words can’t, never, and won’t, and then you will follow them up with something that isn’t really true – it’s just something you believe at the moment.

4. Get Skills To Go In A New Direction

Sometimes you may feel stuck because you can’t do what you want to do, such as work at the dream job you want. In that case, it’s not a limiting belief that is holding you back – it’s a lack of skill. You can have your dream job, but you need to have the skills that your dream job requires. For instance, you can be a chef, but you need to go to school to be a chef or find a really good chef to apprentice under.

When you’re feeling stuck in life, it can be hard to get up and take action on developing a new skill. It takes energy, commitment, and time – three things a lot of people don’t want to give up. But, if you really want to get unstuck, then you need to do it. You may need to go to school in the evening or on weekends. You may need to reach out and find someone who is willing to help you master whatever it is you want to master. But, you do need to do something.

A friend of mine wanted to flip houses. He worked as an English teacher and had no knowledge about flipping houses at all, but he felt stuck in his job and his life, and he felt that flipping houses would offer him the life he wanted. He decided that he needed to know more about it, and he attended a local meeting with investors and flippers. With no experience, this was a scary thing to do, but being immersed in the group gave him the knowledge that he would never have gotten anywhere else. Plus it gave him contacts. Soon, he was flipping his first house and within a few months, he had left his job and started flipping houses full time.

Don’t let yourself make excuses for not getting the skills you need to have the life you want. It might be scary, but you have two choices – stay stuck and miserable or put yourself out there and learn what you need to learn to get unstuck. Life is made for the living, so get out there and live! You will regret it if you don’t!

5. Get Rid Of The Bad Habits

One of the things that will keep you stuck in life is your bad habits. I once met someone who said that he felt like he was stuck in life and had lost his drive to do anything new. He complained that he gambled too much, smoked too much weed, and stayed at home too much when he wasn’t at the casino. It was easy to see that he just had some bad habits that were making him feel stuck, and all he had to do was drop them and create some new habits.

Once he got his gambling under control, stopped smoking weed, and started going out more, his whole life changed. He gained about 40 hours a week that he used to spend in the casino. And because he had started going out more, those 40 hours were put to good use. He was able to hang out with friends and connect with new ones. He took on some hobbies that he had always wanted to try, and those hobbies expanded his life even further. He is a walking example of how anyone can kick bad habits to the curb and become someone different who experiences life rather than gets stuck under a pile of controlling and consuming habits.

Your bad habits may not be as extreme as his. You may have less obvious bad habits, such as complaining, being lazy, procrastinating, and being unwilling to try new things. Those are all bad habits. They are things you do habitually, and they determine how you live your life. If you want to get unstuck, then you must be honest with yourself and drop those habits that are keeping you from doing things that will allow you to progress and move on in life.

6. Stop Looking To The Past

A lot of times when we feel stuck, we are focused on the past. We are not focused on the present and how to change things or the future and what we want; instead, we are focused on what we have been doing and how limiting it feels in life.

You may not feel like you are focused on the past, but if you are stuck inside your head complaining, overthinking, and judging yourself, then you are definitely not focused on the present or the future!

Looking forward and deciding where you would like to be is the first start. Don’t let your past influence what you see for yourself. Just look forward and imagine where you would like to be in a few weeks, months, or a year from now.

Then, shift your focus to your surroundings. When you focus on the present moment, you have an easier time taking action in your life. You don’t worry, complain, or regret anything. You just see what’s going on around you and make the most of your time.

This is partly why A New Earth helped me get unstuck. It taught me that focusing on this moment was all I could do for myself. I couldn’t change the past, but I did have control over the present moment, which directly influenced my future. That’s what got me busy taking action with books, courses, removing limits, developing my skills, and dropping habits that were keeping me stuck.

Believe me. I know these things work to help you stop feeling stuck in life. I went from a life that felt constricting and hopeless to a life that feels great and is full of potential. I know you can do it too if you are willing to get started.
