If you want to have success in any area of life, it all boils down to one question: How bad do you want it? The more you want it, the more likely you are going to achieve it, especially when it comes to the hard things. If you don’t want it bad enough, the chances of you giving up, failing, or getting discouraged are high.

The truth is that you can do anything you want, if you want it bad enough. You can go after your dreams and have the kind of success you want in your career. You can become healthier in body and in mind. You can change your whole life upside down. And it doesn’t matter what age you are or what experiences you have had thus far. If you want it bad enough, you can make all your dreams come true at the age of 20 all the way up to 100, because you will do what it takes.

1. Things Take Time To Get

If you are planning to create goals in your life, then you need to ask yourself how bad you want it first. When goals are made, the result you want is going to be weeks, months, and sometimes even years away from now, which means that you have to want it bad enough to stick with your plan to achieve that goal.

If you don’t want it bad enough, then you will not do what needs to be done. You will put things off, skip important tasks, and start to lose the desire to do what you need to do. If you were to get what you want tomorrow, this wouldn’t be an issue, but, things normally don’t work out that way. Therefore, before you make any goal, put a realistic time frame on it and ask yourself if you want it bad enough to stick with what you need to do.

2. It’s Hard To Change

It’s not hard to do the things we already do, because we want to do them badly. We want to sleep. We want to eat. We want to watch our favorite TV shows. When someone tries to take those things away from us, we feel annoyed and upset because we want them so much.

When you are going after something you want, sometimes you have to sacrifice things that you already want badly, which can be really hard to do! You’ve worked hard to create the environment you are currently living in, and when you have to stop doing things that help you deal with your life or make you feel comfortable, it can become downright painful.

3. You Can Talk Yourself Out Of Anything

When you have been looking in one direction long enough, it’s easy to talk yourself out of going in a different direction because it feels so uncomfortable. Even if you know the direction you are currently going is unhealthy or not in line with who you are, you have the power to talk yourself out of changing because you have complete control over your thoughts which determine what you do on a day-to-day basis.

That should be inspiring to you. If you have the power to talk yourself out of anything, then you have the power to talk yourself into anything. To do that, you need to change how you view yourself and the world around you. You need to change your beliefs about what you really want out of your day and what you are capable of doing. And once you get your perception and your beliefs changed into something more in line with what you want, you will be able to talk yourself into anything.

4. You Value Something Else More

You may say you want something badly, but you may actually want something else more. For instance, you may want to create a daily schedule and stick to it, but you may actually value your freedom to do what you want when you want it more. The value that you place on your freedom to do what you want will naturally cause you to feel resentful towards the schedule, and, eventually, it will be too hard to fight what you really value, so you will find yourself going back to the way you feel most comfortable. Even if you know that a schedule will help you get everything you want, you won’t be able to follow it until you start to value it more than your ability to do whatever you want.

You Do It Better When You Want It Bad

The bottom line is that you have to want it bad. It motivates you to keep moving towards being the best that you can be. If you just ‘kind of’ want it, then you won’t do what needs to be done to get it. You need to want it as bad as you want to eat, drink, and sleep. You have to put yourself out there. You have to sacrifice some things sometimes. You have to get engaged.

If you are focused on the wrong things, such as the effort it takes or the little rewards you will get from it, then you won’t do what needs to be done. So, focus on something that you want really bad. Even if it’s just one thing that makes you get up and take action. It could be superficial, such as money or fame, or it could be more internal, such as more love or more happiness.

2. Value Persistency More Than Anything

Make being persistent one of your most valued traits. When you value being persistent, you will stop talking yourself out of what you want because your commitment to stick with it will outweigh your inner voice telling you that you should quit now and go back to the old way of life.

Being persistent is key to getting what you want. It means doing what you have set out for yourself, even if you don’t feel like it, because you know that it is going to be the course of action that gets you everything that you want.

You don’t have to value persistency for the easy things in life. Watching TV doesn’t require you to be persistent. There’s no opposition there. It’s easy! You sit down, turn the TV on, and relax for hours on end. Exercising, on the other hand, requires you to value being persistent. Time and energy are not always there, so you have to rely on your commitment to do what needs to be done today.

3. Let Go Of Your Failures

You can’t put your whole energy into what you want if you are focused on what you have not achieved. Your inner voice will be saying, “Remember that time that you failed? What if that happens again? Do you really want to put all your energy and hope into this dream again?” If you listen to it, you will not allow yourself to want it bad. You will be too scared to want something bad and then feel the pain of failure again, so, instead, you will allow yourself to ‘kind of’ want it, which won’t get you the results you want.

Let go of what has happened. Don’t be scared of repeated failures. Focus on the power you have today and the hope that you have for tomorrow.

Remind yourself of what a waste it will be to do nothing towards your goals today. Imagine yourself regretting not finishing what you need to finish or doing what it takes to get things done. Let those feelings of wastefulness and regret encourage you to want to do what matters.

5. Get Excited For Obstacles And Opposition

The things that you want the most are going to have obstacles and opposition in their path. They are not meant to be easy! If they were, you could just snap your fingers and get them. You have to get pumped, get motivated, take action, and keep moving when those obstacles and opposition make their way into your path.

The trick is to not dread them! Get excited for them. They are a sign that you are doing something right. They are a sign that you have made progress and your efforts are moving you towards what you want. Get pumped to overcome them and feel the power that comes from doing so.

6. Focus On The Benefits It Will Have For Others

Yes, you have to want it badly for yourself, but when you keep in mind how it will affect other people, you will want it much more badly. It doesn’t matter what area of your life you are focused on, there are benefits for other people as well. Maybe you will teach others something. Maybe you will be able to help someone get through a tough time. Maybe you will earn the respect of someone else. Maybe you will improve your relationship with someone else. Whatever the benefit is, focus on it and let it affect you to increase how bad you want it.

7. Have Faith In Yourself

I’m not just talking about having faith that you can do it, but also faith that you are on the right path in life. When you really believe that you are doing something that you are meant to do – something that is in line with who you are and what you are supposed to do in this life, you will want it more.

Therefore, have faith that you know what’s best for you. If you are listening to yourself, and not to other people, then you are doing what is right for you. You are doing what your inner self is calling out for you to do, which should inspire you to do the best job you can.
