Top 4 Ways To Increase Motivation

Not feeling very motivated? It happens to the best of us. But, there are some things you can do to really inspire some motivation in yourself so that you can get busy doing what you need to do during the day and to better your life. Following are the top 4 ways to increase motivation.

1. Find The Good In It

You are not always going to be doing something that you love, and when you really dislike what you are doing, motivation will run and hide in a really good hiding spot. At that point, you have to find the benefit (or benefits) of doing whatever it is you have to do.

For instance, if you have to go to a family gathering, and would rather get ill than have to attend, you are going to need to find some positive motivators about going. Motivators could be making your family members happy, getting a chance to surround yourself with people you have known for a long time, getting out of the house, or even just getting to have some good food or drinks. The more you can find the benefits, the more motivated you will be to forgo the illness and go the gathering.

2. Focus On The Impact It Has For Your Life

Everything you do is an opportunity to grow, and focusing on this fact is a great way to increase your motivation. So get selfish and think about the ways that doing something will impact your life for the better.

Using the family example, you may become stronger when you have to face a nagging family member or you may get the chance to practice patience with a family member who constantly gets on your nerves. Becoming stronger and more patient are two things that have a very positive impact on your life.

3. Slow Things Down

A life coach recently told me that the biggest issue her clients have is being overwhelmed. They have taken on too many tasks at one time or are trying to reach too far too quickly. When you become overwhelmed, motivation will start to deteriorate and doing nothing will seem much more fun and less stressful.

If your motivation is lacking, take a look at how much you have on your plate. The desire to not do what you need to do may be an indication that you need to scale things back a bit or move towards something in smaller steps.

Don’t worry, as long as you keep taking steps, you will reach your goals. It’s when you stop completely (have no motivation) that goals will never, ever be reached.

4. Work On Feeling Good About Life

The better you feel about life, the more motivated you will be to get out and live it! Ironically, one of the best ways to feel good about life is to go after your goals and consistently take steps towards achieving them, and that requires motivation.

But there are other things you can do to feel good on a daily basis, such as:

– Stop watching TV that impacts your thoughts and behaviors negatively
– Surround yourself with loving and fun people
– Take time to pamper yourself with activities and luxuries that make you feel amazing
– Laugh, laugh, and laugh some more
– Smile more, even if you don’t feel so great. (The fake it until you make it technique has been proven to work!)

The more you do stuff to feel good, the better you will feel. And, you will be more motivated to get up and do what you need to do in life.
