There’s a common belief among people who actually go after what they want: If you give up on something you want, you give up on your life.
The fact is that no one ever complained about following their dreams. No one ever complained about going after what they wanted with a vengeance. The only people you will hear complain about life are the people who couldn’t stay strong and gave up.
Aim to be the person who never complains about what you didn’t get to achieve. Use the following quotes about not giving up and staying strong to help you out. They are all equally important to remember as you work towards what you want in life.
1. Failure Leads To Success
“Failure is an integral part of success, so don’t let that be the reason you give up.” – Prince Ea
One failure can make you want to give up, but failure after failure can beat you down and make you feel unworthy and incapable. I get it. But, if you choose to look at failure differently, it still won’t feel great when it happens, but it will not be a signal to give up; instead, it will be a signal to try again and keep going.
Try viewing failure in a few different ways.
First, view failure as something that happens as a result of trying, which is a good thing. Most people don’t even try, so you’ve already taken steps beyond what most people will do.
Second, see failure as a way to build your character and make you stronger and more capable of taking bigger risks that might result in bigger payoffs, but also bigger failures.
Lastly, see failure as a tool that can help you understand how to move forward in a way that gives you a greater chance of getting what you want.
When you view failure in those three ways, it will feel much less draining. And, you will find yourself not giving up and staying strong in the face of failure, despite how badly you wanted a success instead of a failure.
2. Others Will Always Try To Get You To Give Up
“Many will find fault: YOU must find the forward path.” – Tristan Bishop
When I first started my online business, everyone else thought it was ridiculous. It was what I wanted to do, but because they found so much fault in it, I felt like giving up. Thankfully I didn’t. I’ve gone on to create some amazing things and live a life that I want to live. But, it took a lot of strength to find the right path forward despite all the faults that other people found in it.
Other people won’t just try to affect your career path or your desire to go after your passions. They will try to affect the very essence of who you are.
For instance, I know a young man who recently came out as gay to his parents. Both of them see it as a phase, and they are trying to get him the ‘support’ he needs to realize what his true path forward is. Thankfully, this young man is strong and understands that his parents don’t understand who he is. He’s not going to give up on his vision for himself, just because they can’t understand it. He’s going to stay strong despite their disapproving looks, words, and actions. And that’s what not giving up on yourself is all about.
3. Not Many People Go After What They Want
“Don’t cry because you want to give up, cry because you care enough to keep going.” – James Ellsworth
Almost everyone feels the desire to give up when they try to make changes in their life or go down a path that is challenging, but what those people need to realize is that they cared enough about themselves and their happiness to try. Most people won’t take the first step.
Most people won’t go after what they want. This shows in New Year’s resolutions where almost everyone sets out goals for themselves, but, according to statistics, less than 10 percent of people actually achieve those goals. Their fear and resistance keep them stuck in a place they don’t want to be and they spend their time crying – not because it’s hard, but because they can’t even try to go after the life they want.
If you are starting to feel weak and are thinking about giving up, remember that you are already a supremely strong person. You took the first steps to go after what you wanted, and you have the strength to keep going.
4. Don’t Settle For Something Good
“Don’t be afraid to give up the good and go for the great.” – John D. Rockefeller
Maybe you wanted to achieve something great, and you’ve achieved a smaller version of what you wanted. Your strength to keep going may be fading and you may think about giving up and settling with what you’ve achieved. Don’t settle! Don’t be afraid to move forward from this spot that is good, but not quite what you want. Keep going for the great! You will be glad you did!
I’ve heard a lot of stories about settling, but one sticks out in this instant. One woman was reaching her 30s and she found a man who she liked but didn’t feel passionate about. She decided to stop dating and searching for the guy of her dreams and settle with this guy who was ‘good enough’ for her. Two decades later she was miserable and wished she had waited for someone who ignited some passion in her. But, at that point, she felt stuck and stayed in her mediocre marriage. Who knows what type of relationship she could have had if she had waited for someone who she knew was great for her.
5. What Does Strong Look Like?
“Strong minds lead. Strong minds also follow. Weak minds point fingers. Stay progressive. Stay focused.” – Sam Barrington
If you see someone shouting from the rooftops their opinions and beliefs, you may think that they are strong and see yourself as weak in comparison. Their loudness and energy can feel strong, but it’s really other things in disguise. Mainly desperation.
People who feel the need to scream loudly and point fingers at others feel like their lives are being controlled by others. That’s why they are so busy stomping their feet and yelling as loud as they can. They don’t have the inner strength to stop talking and start taking action, so they point the finger and try to puff out their chest to make themselves feel better. It can look strong, but it really isn’t.
People who know who they are and understand that they are strong and capable don’t need to scream from the rooftops. They can lead or follow, but they are always moving forward. They are always moving towards something better and they know that they are in control of their life, not other people. They don’t need to convince anyone of that. They just need to stay focused on themselves and what they are trying to create.
6. The Devil Is Going To Try To Bring You Down
“The greater you do and the better you become, the harder the devil going go at you… stay strong and keep the faith.” – Ryan Smith
This is one of the most interesting quotes about not giving up and staying strong that I found. It symbolizes that feeling you get when life presents opportunities to take the easy way out, even if it’s wrong. And there will be plenty of opportunities to do the wrong thing or the easy thing once you start to acheive things.
The strong, who can avoid the ‘devil’, will be rewarded with real and rewarding success. It’s always better to look back on a struggle that led to success than it is to look back on a path of lying, cheating, and stealing. So, stay strong, have faith that you can do it on your own, and celebrate your strength each step of the way as the thing that is building your character and integrity.
7. You Should Feel Uncomfortable!
“It is good to be uncomfortable. I’ve never met anybody who was terribly creative or gifted or strong in leadership who was also comfortable.” – T.D. Jakes
As you work on creating better things for yourself, you will feel uncomfortable. A lot of people don’t like to feel uncomfortable and they would rather give up and stop trying than live in a state of feeling uncomfortable here or there.
The thing you have to remember is that it’s not going to be a breeze. You need to push yourself out of your comfort zone constantly as you work towards new and better things, and that can result in a lot of tension and uneasiness.
As T.D. Jakes says, nobody who has achieved great things or is working towards something more is free from the feeling of being uncomfortable. They all feel a slight discomfort here and there in their life as they make decisions, experience failure and setbacks, and deal with situations that are outside of their comfort zone. But, it’s a sign they are growing and doing things that matter.
8. Everyone Thinks Their Way Is The Right Way!
“You’re gonna have people along the way try to talk you out of your vision and try to talk you into theirs. Stay strong.” – Stone Wallace
I know an older man who believes that working for the government is imperative for long-term happiness. He has a list of reasons why, and whenever he comes across anyone who is looking for a job or trying to pursue something different than a government job, he will try to convince them that they need to go out and get a government job instead. And he’s persuasive! He even kept his son in a government job for years because his son believed that it was the right thing to do, even though it didn’t feel right to him.
He’s just one of many people who think that their way is the right way. You will come across many of these people as you work towards what you want. And, if you let them, you will start to question what you are doing. You may even change what you are doing and end up on their path instead of yours.
Always remember that we all walk our own paths in life, and not one of them is similar to someone else’s. You get to choose your own way. You get to choose what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’ for you. You get to choose the best option for you, and it may be different than what someone else believes is the best option.
As long as you are listening to your inner voice, and following your desires and passions, you are making the right choice in each moment, so don’t question it!
9. Need Another Reason To Not Give Up And Stay Strong?
“When you are strong, you can be strong for others.” – Gary Vaynerchuck
It’s important to not give up and stay strong for your own happiness and fulfillment in life. If you follow a path you feel is right, then that is what is going to give you the most amount of pleasure. And, each time you avoid giving up, you will feel stronger. Your strength will naturally build and you will start to feel like someone who is capable of doing what you want, despite your fears or anything else that stands in the way.
That strength will transcend from your life to other people’s lives. You will be someone that people can turn to for advice and support. You will have a natural strength that causes other people to look up to you in times of trouble or struggle. You will be strong for other people who have lost their strength or need someone to carry a big load for a while.
Remember, though, that doesn’t mean you will stop doing what you need to do in life and focus solely on being strong for other people. In fact, that would weaken you since your strength comes from your own struggles and successes in life.
10. It’s Coming If You Keep Going Forward!
“There is no question that if the energy and the vibrational frequency is correct… that there is a space that you create that allows that to happen.” – Oprah Winfrey
This quote is referring to going after what you want. It’s referring to bringing the things you desire into your life. While it’s about the law of attraction, it’s about much more than that. It’s about staying the course, not giving up, and staying strong because what you want is coming to you!
Too many people give up just before they reach success. They stop trying. They start complaining. And what they want starts to move farther and farther away from them.
The problem is that you can’t see when what you want is going to come. If you could, you would never give up and always stay strong because what you want would be in sight and feel like a guarantee.
When you can’t see something, it doesn’t feel like a guarantee. That’s why remembering this quote from Oprah, the woman who never gave up and stayed strong despite many setbacks and negative people is so important. It will help you ‘see’ that what you are working towards is coming, even if it’s not visible yet. And, it may be just around the corner, so giving up now may mean missing out on what you want by a possible hour, day, or week.
11. If You Think There’s A Chance, Go For It
“If there’s even a slight chance at getting something that will make you happy, risk it.” – A.R. Lucas
Despite feeling like you want to give up, ask yourself if there is a chance it could work out. If the answer is yes, and you really want it to work out, stay strong and go for it! Life is too short to not go after the things you really want, especially if there is a chance that you can get them!
And the truth is that you do think there is a chance you can get it if you have already decided that you want to work towards it. If you didn’t think there was a chance, then there would be no dilemma. You wouldn’t even worry about trying because you would know in your heart it was impossible.
12. Don’t Decide Who You Are Before You Even Try
“You can’t be a “has been” if you never were. Don’t give up on yourself.” – Jefferson County Alabama Sheriff’s Office
I found this quote from a sheriff’s office while I was looking for quotes about not giving up and staying strong, and I love it! Too many people see themselves as insignificant even though they haven’t actually put themselves out there and tried to accomplish anything. You can’t be a ‘has been’ if you’ve never been someone of extreme importance in the world, so stop labeling yourself as such. Put in the work and make your mark on the world first and then decide who you are.
