It’s easy to bury your head in the sand and not pay attention to yourself, the people around you, and the world. A lot of people think that they will be happier without living in a state of awareness. But the truth is that having awareness helps you reduce negative thinking and emotions, and it gives you the power to do something about things affecting your life negatively. Hopefully, these awareness quotes will help you see that and change your life forever.
1. Awareness Will Help Increase Your Daily Positivity
“Hope, hopelessness, despair are relative. Awareness is absolute.” – Deepak Chopra
There is so much that happens to us throughout the day. We hear about things, we see things, and we experience things that we may or may not like. How we feel about these things can depend a lot on how much awareness we are carrying around them.
For instance, if we hear about some political drama that is going on, it can cause us to lose hope or gain hope depending on our awareness. If we lack awareness around the situation, we often make stories up in our head and come up with the worst case scenario. However, if we have awareness around the situation – even a little, we often move forward with less struggle and more hope that things will work out. This keeps us in a more positive frame of mind.
It’s important to remember that hope, hopelessness, and despair can be natural reactions in relation to what is happening. But, when you see things as hopeless, you are not seeing things clearly. You are being influenced by the current situation. With more awareness, you will start to view things with a clearer lens that takes into account the whole picture, not just one situation, and that will decrease the negative thoughts and emotions.
2. You And Awareness Are One
“You are awareness disguised as a person.” – Eckhart Tolle
Oprah once said that this was one of the awareness quotes from Eckhart Tolle that was a huge aha moment for her. Essentially this quote means that you are not the voice in your head, despite how loud it gets or how much it demands you listen to it. Instead, you are awareness.
If the voice in your head tells you that you are in a stressful situation, you can feel stressed. But, the fact is, just because that voice says it’s stressful, doesn’t mean you need to feel stressed.
If you gain a sense of awareness and see the situation for what is it, not what your mind is making it up to be, there is a good chance you will feel content at the bare minimum and joyful at the most.
For example, the other day I had to meet up with a judgmental friend who is known to complain and point out faults in everyone. The voice in my head told me I should be stressed and worried about getting together with her, and for a while I was. But, then I realized that I was much more than the voice in my head. I decided to move forward with a sense of awareness around the situation, which allowed me to wait and see what happened without guessing. I took it moment by moment and ended up enjoying the get-together. In short, I chose to live in my true state – awareness, and it helped me make the most of the moment and see it as it was rather than what my imagination decided it could be.
3. Can You Develop Your Awareness?
“Taking responsibility for your destiny. Embracing the possibilities that arise today. Being open and alert to changing situations. Having a confident flexible response to change. Finding solutions when problems and obstacles block the way. None of these depend on god-given attributes, good luck or a happy childhood. They are awareness skills, and it’s totally realistic for you to develop them if you use hope as part of your inner strength.” – Deepak Chopra
All awareness quotes from Deepak pack a powerful lesson, which is why you will see a few from him in this article. This quote was from a meditation lesson he was doing on hope, and it makes it very clear that you can become skilled at awareness and exactly how you can do it.
Looking at the skills he mentions, I can clearly see that people in my life who lack awareness also lack most of these skills. They don’t take responsibility for their own life. They are resistant to change. They give up when obstacles block the way and complain consistently about the obstacle instead. And, they come from all walks of life, but still, use their life as an excuse for where they are. I wish they could read and understand this quote, but the fact is they probably aren’t ready to hear it and wouldn’t be able to fully grasp its importance.
If you are still reading this article on awareness quotes, then I’m willing to bet you can see the importance in developing these skills. In fact, you probably already have a few of them locked down.
I highly recommend working on any that you are lacking. Create habits to help you do so. For example, every time you point the finger at someone else, remind yourself that you need to take responsibility for your own life and then figure out how you contributed to the situation. I know from experience that this one skill of taking ownership over your life can greatly increase your awareness in all areas of life.
4. What’s Important For Developing Self-Awareness?
“The first step towards self-awareness is being willing to look at yourself and your life without judgment or self-criticism.” – Iyanla Vanzant
Developing a sense of awareness of your surroundings and situations in your life is important, but so is developing self-awareness. Self-awareness will help you understand who you are and why you do what you do. It will help you see the good and not-so-good in yourself and correct behaviors and beliefs that are keeping you stuck. But, first, you have to develop self-awareness.
I personally think the act of thinking about self-awareness is the first step towards developing it. Once you acknowledge that you are not just someone who has no control over who they are or how they act, and realize that you can learn more about yourself and grow from that knowledge, you are on your way to developing more self-awareness. But, I like Iyanla’s quote.
Look at yourself without adding in the thoughts and criticisms that the voice in your head wants to add in. Take an honest look at yourself, who you are, where you are, what you’ve done, and what you believe. What you find may not be pretty. You may not like a lot of things about yourself. But, with self-awareness, you will be able to work on changing those things that you don’t like and monitoring those changes to see if they are going the way you want them to go.
For instance, I have a friend who knows that he often speaks before he thinks. He’s aware of that trait and he wants to change it. He’s working on pausing, thinking, and then deciding if he needs to speak, but sometimes he messes up. Sometimes he opens his mouth and says something that comes from a place of judgment, not awareness, and because he is practicing self-awareness, he can see his mistake after and often regrets it. But, each mistake – and the awareness of how much he doesn’t like it – is helping him eliminate that trait.
5. How To Develop Even Higher Self-Awareness
“Higher self-awareness is possible once you cultivate an attitude of love, acceptance, and appreciation for yourself.” – Deepak Chopra
Once you are able to look at your life as it is, not as the voice in your head tells you that is it, it’s important to love, accept, and appreciate yourself. Even if you are not perfect you can love yourself. Even if you have some traits that you don’t like, you can accept yourself. And, for all the good things that make you who you are, you can appreciate yourself. By doing these things, you will become more in tune with the essence of you.
Positive affirmations are great for cultivating an attitude of love, acceptance, and appreciation. If you can’t think of any positive affirmations, ask your friends or family to tell you good things about you. They likely see good characteristics that you don’t see.
What they tell you are affirmations that you can use to start seeing the good in yourself and recognizing the unattractive things – even tiny things – that you want to change. So, if they tell you that you are great at listening, write that down and affirm it to yourself daily. As you do, you will start to recognize how great you are at listening and become more aware of other positive characteristics that you have and negative ones that you want to change.
6. Do You Want To Stay The Same Forever?
“Awareness is the greatest agent of change.” – Eckhart Tolle
When it comes to awareness quotes, Eckhart Tolle is another one that could fill up a book with meaningful bits of wisdom. And this one is important to remember if you don’t want to be the same person with the same life and the same struggles five, ten, or twenty years from now.
If you want to change, then awareness is your biggest tool to do so. It helps you recognize what works and what doesn’t. It helps you see what you truly want out of life and what you truly stand for in life, and then it forces you to do things to adjust your life to make it more of what you want.
I’ve found that you may make changes that you never thought you would make once you become more aware. For instance, I ended up breaking off a friendship of fifteen years because I became aware of how unhealthy it was and how it was making me miserable and holding me back in life. Without that awareness, I would probably still be in that friendship and experiencing the same struggles I was experiencing backing then.
If you ever find yourself wishing things could be different, better, happier, easier, or more fulfilling, then you should be working on developing your awareness. It’s a guarantee that change will follow once you do.
7. Do You Want Inner Stillness?
“Becoming aware of awareness is the arising of inner stillness.” – Eckhart Tolle
It’s hard to be a wreck all the time. Feeling as if your life is chaotic and you are full of turmoil is tough. It makes for a bad day, year, and life. It causes stress on both the mind and the body, affects your relationships negatively, affects your career negatively, and – well, it affects your entire life negatively!
When you look at Eckhart Tolle, you get a sense of stillness. When you listen to him, you feel calm because he is calm. It’s a great feeling, and it’s even better when you can experience it in your day to day life.
Keep working on your awareness and you will find yourself feeling this sense of inner stillness more often. Keep making it an important part of your day, and you will be surprised at what happens.
I’ve found that being more aware has helped me be still during times that would have called for a freak out a few years ago. For instance, reading a negative comment online that was said out of pure hate used to get me upset and cause my mind and body to feel chaotic and out of control. Blood boiling, increased heart rate, and racing thoughts would all instantly appear. But, now that I practice awareness, I can see these comments for what they are and many times they don’t bother me. I’ve found myself being completely unaffected by certain comments simply because of awareness, and it’s so nice to be still and move on to more important things.
8. Don’t Get Overwhelmed By Personal Growth – Focus On Awareness
“Cultivating inner awareness, introspection and reasoning can be more effective than meditation and prayer.” – Dalai Lama
If you are looking for awareness quotes, then you are probably working on your personal growth. I know from experience that the more you look into personal growth, the more overwhelmed you can become.
As you read books and articles, take courses, and talk to other people working on their personal growth, you will get a ton of recommendations on what you SHOULD be doing, such as meditation, positive affirmations, increasing spiritual connection, developing better habits, being less judgmental, practicing kindness, and so much more. It can be overwhelming, to say the least.
If you feel overwhelmed, and feel like you will never achieve the level of personal growth you want to achieve, make awareness your focus. Everything else stems from awareness. With the right type of awareness, you can see the benefit in doing certain things and you are much more likely to do them without stress.
When you are focused on maintaining a sense of awareness about yourself and situations that you run into in your day, you make better decisions and practice better habits naturally. It’s almost as if you are connected with source, the energy that knows exactly what you need to do now to move towards the life you want. And if you listen to that energy through your intuition, you will do the things in your best interest. But, it all starts with awareness.
